I use this projector to do training utilizing Power Point slides, videos, photos, and at times, live TV. Everything works well, and I love the fact that I can advance Power Point slides from the projector remote control. Saved me the cost of buying a USB remote. I usually project onto a white wall and I’m very satisfied with the results. I’m totally satisfied with this item and recommend it.

I was asked to buy a new projector to use in a classroom setting. We had been using an earlier model of the Epson (sorry, I can’t recall the name or number of the model), and we were pleased with the picture and its reliability. After reading the reviews on Amazon, I decided to purchase this model. The classroom receives partial daylight through the windows, so we felt it was important to have a projector that delivered a sharp, crisp image. We are very pleased with the picture, which is superior to that of the older model of the Epson. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a low cost projector to use in a classroom setting.

This is an excellent medium priced projector that provides a very bright image, visible in rooms that cannot be darkened totally. The colors on the screen compare favorably with what I see on my Apple laptop, a number of other projectors I tried failed this important requirement. The unit is lightweight and compact, it travels well. My only concern is the high temperature, it is important not to block any of the ventilation vents The projector displays a warning message if overheating. So far I am very pleased with my choice.

While this is not the most expensive video projector on the market - it is more than adequate to meet the needs of most small businesses. It is not the smallest or lightest - but the price… you cannot fault it. Easy use of controls on the machine - the remote is a bit oversized with small buttons - but that works for us - as we have lost several remotes in the past that were postage stamp size because different people use them. The cost of the replacement bulb at under $200 is a big plus - my advice is to buy a spare and keep in stock. Colors are great and it is bright enough for room lit showing of presentations. Excellent buy for the money.

This Optoma ep727’s lamp burned out in under 200 hours. The company won’t replace this. Over $300 to replace the lamp. What a poor piece of equipment and a terrible company with horrible customer service. YOU SHOULD NOT BUT THIS PIECE OF JUNK.

The Optoma EP727 projector was much smaller than we expected, and very lightweight, but it didn’t feel flimsy at all, just solid and well-built.

We bought this to use for a theatre show. The set largely consisted of slides projected onto a backdrop, and we were worried about having the slides bright and sharp, despite the long throw and the bright stage lights illuminating the actors. No trouble - this was great! We fastened the projector up on the lighting bar, and strung a 50′ VGA cable up, over, and down to the controlling computer (an old G3 Apple iBook). It worked flawlessly. We were not certain the remote would work from that distance (the projector was 20′ in the air) but we had no problem turning the machine on and off remotely. The keystoning feature was very useful, since we were projecting from well above the stage.

The projector had no trouble with long ‘on’ times. It was on continuously for about 5 hours during the dress rehersal, and for about 2 hours for each performance. I was really impressed when it recovered without a hiccup when we triggered a circuit breaker and the power went out. That happened twice; once during rehersal and once during a performance.

In fact, the only complaint I have at all is that the projector boots while projecting the name "Optoma", then hunts for the computer signal. If it weren’t for that, I’m sure the audience would not have noticed when the circuit blew during the performance (it was during a transition in the play, and a blackout might have been appropriate). As it was, it only took a minute or so to get fully operational again.

We did not use the DVI input for this show, but I tried it with my home computer (which has a DVI video out) and the projector image looked especially sharp.

I find my Optoma EP727 to be just what I needed and at a nice price. Its size and weight make it very portable and the bulb brightness is suitable for use at a wide range of venues. I use it for slide shows and video projections, as well as showing HDTV. The projector has all of the inputs I need as well as the feature controls desirable for my range of uses.
The only negative I have found is that the control buttons are very tender indeed. I have accidentally powered the projector down numerous times while adjusting the direction or tilt. A detent position on the buttons would be a good improvement.

Great quality projector. I hooked it up on my laptop and had great picture. The reason I gave it a 4 star is because it doesn’t have a RCA inputs.

I will be entering the presentation circuit soon, so I decided to pick up a projector. After some research, I found that a projector with the same native resolution as your laptop will produce the best picture quality, so I narrowed my search to projectors with 1280×800 resolution, the same as my Macbook. The InFocus IN35W was one of the few that came up.

After reading favorable reviews of InFocus projectors online, I decided to make the buy. I ordered from Amazon a few days ago, and I picked it up last night after a near-UPS nightmare (Note to Amazon: STOP using UPS as a shipper, they suck!). I gave it several hours of usage, and here’s my feedback:

Pros:
- Very easy to set up. Just plug in the power, the M1 video cable to the projector, and the USB and VGA to your laptop (those of us with Macbooks will need the Apple mini-DVI-to-VGA adapter)
- As noted above, the IN35W’s bundled video cable also has a USB connector, so you can flip slides in your presentation using the included remote.
- Warms up and turns on fast, in about 10 seconds
- Cools down quickly, in about 15-20 seconds
- The picture quality is absolutely stunning. I’ve never seen a projector in my life that looks like this. Especially when running at native 1280×800, it’s beautiful. Connected to my Macbook, I ran through my Keynote presentation, did various desktop tasks such as Mail and Firefox, and it looks great. I also connected the IN35W to my brand new Nintendo Wii, and it looked great as well. Not as good as the Macbook, since the Wii is only 480p and not at the native resolution of the projector, but still great.
- Has a "Power Mode", which will reduce brightness by about 20%, and make the projector run significantly quieter. (By my estimations, about 50-60% quieter)
- Comes with a nice carrying case.
- Comes with a nice-looking remote, though I haven’t tried to use it yet.

Cons:
- The rainbow effect. Yes, it is there, however slight. You can *just* notice it when watching a movie, but it’s not too obvious or apparent. In my judgement it was not enough to make me return the projector, considering everything else it has going for it. When playing the Nintendo Wii, you can’t notice it at all, nor could I notice it under regular desktop usage. Only on some scenes in movies, and a few other edge cases. In all cases it is a minor effect, and not everyone will be able to notice it.
- In the default operation mode, it is loud, though probably not louder than any standard projector. Thankfully there is the "Power Mode" which reduces fan noise by a significant amount
- Like all projectors, it runs warm. The fan sucks in cool air from the left side, and shoots out hot air from the right side. Woe onto those presentees who are seated at the right side of the IN35W! They are going to have their own personal heater, whether they like it or not. Again, this is probably true of any projector.
- There is no optical keystone adjustment, rather just an electronic one. From what I’ve read, this will degrade picture quality, though through my own visual inspection, it seemed perfectly fine.
- The projector sometimes seems to produce a crooked picture on some seemingly even surfaces, causing me to use a DVD case to prop up one of the corners. So far I haven’t found any setting that can compensate for this.
- The included carrying case does not have a shoulder strap, rather only a small hand strap.

Verdict:
This is an excellent projector. All of the "Cons" above would probably apply to 90% of projectors out there. The best thing this has going for it is the picture quality, which is stunning and in a completely different class based on what I’ve seen of projectors (if you are using a 1280×800 laptop especially). It is not in the cheapest class of projectors (sub $1000), but with it’s picture quality level, it seems worth the money to me. You will love your Wii’s huge picture being projected on your wall, I promise.

For those of you with hangups about the rainbow effect, you will want to see this in person to see if it’s a dealbreaker for you.

Reviewer "michaeldavidsj" complains that he was expecting a more sophisticated remote control for this projector. "michaeldavidsj" would prefer a wireless remote (like that used for TV) rather than the standard hard-wired Kodak remote that is connected to the projector through an electrical cable terminating with a plug that must be plugged into the projector.

IF "michaeldavidsj" had the wireless remote that he wants, he would have to divert his eyes from the picture on the screen, so that he could turn his body and aim the remote at it’s receiver on the slide projector (in the dark) - every time he wanted to change to another slide. What a monumental distraction and inconvenience this would be for the projectionist when trying to enjoy a slide show at home! Fortunately, this procedure is not necessary with the standard hard-wired Kodak remote.

Aiming a wireless remote for slide projection at home is different than for viewing TV. With TV, the viewer faces both the TV screen AND the receiver for the wireless remote on the TV. With slide projection in a typical room at home the projectionist/viewer faces the screen but almost never faces the receiver for the wireless remote on the projector, because the projectionist is viewing pictures on the screen and is often located to one side of the projector (except when sitting right behind the projector).

A wireless remote is useful for a speaker/projectionist in a large room (such as an auditorium) when making a presentation to an audience, because in this case the speaker/projectionist faces the receiver for the remote on the projector while facing the audience. I would never purchase a wireless projector remote for any application other than such a presentation.

The editor says that one can be seated while using the remote. While this is true, the reviewer doesn’t note the fact that the remote has to be attached to the slide projector itself. I was expecting a little more sophisication, such as when one uses a remote to change channels on a television.

Also, the projector does not come with a lens, nor is there a cover for the projector itself. If one considers buying this product, keep in mind that one will have to get various accessories, such as a lens, and a decent covering case, and perhaps a more sophisicated remote — one that is not necessarily attached to the projector.
